Applications: Oil & Gas Industry

Overview

We provide extensive radio networks for major Gas Pipeline Utilities. The systems utilise existing backbone infrastructure or dedicated lines with Trio base stations to form a large array of point-to-multipoint networks monitoring of CRITICAL backbone pipeline infrastructure.

Base sites are typically fitted with Trio’s hot standby automatic changeover base stations, while each remote site uses Trio’s proven reliability D Series radio.

Being a critical application, the networks are monitored by Trio’s TVIEW™ remote diagnostics software and remotely controlled by the Operations Control Centre.

North West Shelf

A number of companies associated with the construction, operation and expansion of the offshore oil and gas fields at the north western tip of Australia have utilised and continue to add Trio D series wireless data equipment to provide remote control and data acquisition facilities for the exploration, production (well heads) and transport (pipelines) of both natural gas and oil from offshore facilities back to the mainland.

Well over one hundred remote stations are currently in operation in this area as well as numerous fully duplicated hot standby base/repeater stations, including one system where 8 of these units (Hot Standby) are used in a critical application to provide all the control and monitoring circuits to one of the world's first completely unmanned, submersed offshore production facilities. Virtually all of the units are monitored with our advanced Network Management and Remote Diagnostics system.

Santos - Moomba Gas Fields

Against world wide competition, we were successful in winning a project for the design, supply, installation and commissioning of the complete digital data communications infrastructure project for one of Australia's largest gas producing fields.

The complete network covers many hundreds of kilometres and utilises existing backbone micro-wave infrastructure to deploy an array of Base Stations branching out as Point to Multipoint hubs for over 150 remote site data radio's. System expansion is currently commencing and will bring the total number of remote stations to well over 300.

Telstra / Gas Transmission Corporation

In conjunction with Telstra (Australia's largest Telecommunications provider) under a Partnership Agreement, we were successful in winning the communications infrastructure used for monitoring Victoria's main gas pipeline for the Gas Transmission Corporation.

This network extends over greater Victoria from Ballarat in the west, Geelong in the south, Sale in the east and Wodonga in the North, supporting eighteen (18) Hot Standby Base Stations and in excess of one hundred remote sites with Bristol RTU's.

The system is managed from Telstra's 24 hour a day fully monitored Network Operations Control Centre (NOCC) and utilises our unique Stream Routing capabilities to simultaneously carry Bristol BSAP protocol, Bristol Remote Diagnostics protocol and Trio's Network Management and Remote Diagnostics.

Chevron - Papua New Guinea

Chevron petroleum employed a Trio Point to Multipoint data network for the Moran EWT and Gas Re-injection project in the southern highlands province of Paua New Guinea.

This system employs Trio's remote diagnostics and network management facilities and has undergone expansion since its original installation.

East Spar Alliance Off Shore Gas Field

This is one of the worlds first totally unmanned of-shore (approx 60km) gas fields which is remotely controlled via dedicated data services

Radio technologies employed:

  • Dedicated data radio modems
  • Dedicated Conventional Radio
  • SATCOM-M Communications

Protocols employed:

  • Fisher Rosemount
  • Data radio link diagnostics

Mobil

Mobil Australia have in excess of 100 units operating throughout Australia at each of their refueling depots. Petrol tankers are fitted with a radio modem and when the truck approaches the depot (approximately 200-500m) all data pertaining to deliveries and invoicing is downloaded and uploaded to the tanker, improving efficiency and reducing operating costs.

PDVSA - Venezuela

Since 1999, the State Oil Coy. of Venezuela (PDVSA) has taken delivery of 20 TC-D series redundant hot standby base / repeater systems employing over 200 remote stations and 10 TC-95MSR MUX/Stream Routers to allow complex system configuration.

Trio's Network Management and Remote Diagnostics have been supplied to permit the monitoring and control of all systems to allow early warning, troubleshooting and detection of field problems from a central location and the efficient utilisation of field maintenance personnel by directing them straight to the locations requiring their services. Additional systems will be continue to be added with follow on orders recently received.

PetroBras - Brazil

In order to monitor their oil and gas production fields and associated infrastructure in the north east of the country, PetroBras (Brazilian State Oil Coy.) have selected Trio's D series equipment.

Cumulative deliveries so far have included base / repeater systems with almost 500 remote sites. All equipment is fully monitored using Trio's Network Management and Remote Diagnostics. The number of installed systems will continue to grow in the future.
