Applications: Water Industry

 

Overview

Trio data radios provide an essential component of Wide Area Data Distribution Networks in capital cities for monitoring and control of water distribution and management systems. Some systems support in excess of 300 remote sites and communicate with various brands of RTU devices. The system can incorporate many base station sites and several supplementary store and forward sites operating in a point-to-multipoint configuration and utilising our remote diagnostics radio facility.

River and irrigation industries use Trio radio modems to monitor and control river valleys and water storages, picking up flow, level and flood warning information in river catchments.

Brisbane City Council

Brisbane City Council has installed a major water / waste water management SCADA network which currently consists of:

  • six (6) hot standby base stations
  • approximately fifteen (15) supplementary base stations
  • in excess of three hundred (300) remote RTU's.

The ultimate system is anticipated to cater for approximately 800 remote sites. The system employs report by exception and polling and utilises our unique supervisory collision avoidance system and remote diagnostics facilities.

South East Water

South East Water have a large Point to Multipoint Network covering a large area of greater Melbourne via 3 high reliability Base Stations. The system covers approximately 100 remote sites and communicates with several types of RTU devices. This system also utilises our Network Management and Remote Diagnostics facility.

Melbourne Water

Melbourne Water utilise approximately 25 Trio data radios in a point to multipoint (PTMP) system.

The system is used to monitor the Werribee Sewage Treatment Farm and utilises our unique collision avoidance mechanism and multipoint operation. This has facilitated the operation of two independent systems onto the one data radio network by using both Port A and Port B to interface to two different brands of PLC's and Trio's Stream Routing capability to carry the data from the two different systems on the one channel at the same time.

Department of Land and Water Conservation - New South Wales, Australia

The Department of Land and Water Conservation (DLWC) in the Australian State of New South Wales is responsible for the effective management and delivery of water resources throughout an area of over 200,000 sq. km. Main tasks involve monitoring of water reserves and flow rates at all levels of the water distribution system. Flood warning is also a critical function. Trio D series wireless data products were chosen for their flexibility and cost effectiveness in allowing complex communication networks to be configured with multiple data streams and protocols being conveyed using backbone links with only single radio channels.

Network Management and Remote Diagnostics is used to ensure that the wireless data system remains in optimum condition for this critical application despite the harsh environmental conditions under which it has to operate. The system has been continuously upgraded and is currently being significantly expanded to include well over 200 D Series units.
