Typical System Design

The JS100 will support 10Mbps and 100Mbps Ethernet connections and behaves as a transparent Ethernet bridge. It is strongly recommend that a configurable router is installed between the master JS100 located at the base station and the SCADA network cloud. This is due to small amounts of unnecessary broadcast traffic consuming significant amounts of bandwidth on the licensed data radio network. The router should be configured to only pass SCADA related Ethernet traffic.

The RS-232 interface to the radio modem uses a fixed format and speed, which eases configuration setup. Providing the Ethernet application/protocol does not exceed the bandwidth provided by the licensed data radio system, the JS100 will conveniently allow the system designer to support Ethernet applications over a predominately RS-232 serial based system. JS100 devices are only required on sites where Ethernet connectivity must be provided.
